This is a salaried and exempt position. Standard workweek is 40 hours. However, frequent nights and weekends are required.
Employee will work ten (10) months of each fiscal year – off two months.
On-call duty required in residence halls.
Under supervision of the Head Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach, provide assistance in all aspects of coaching, recruiting, and administrative duties for nationally-competitive Division III golf programs. Individual reports to the Head Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach.
Essential Job Functions
•Assist in organizing, preparing and conducting practices, competitions, and player meetings;
•Recruit student-athletes in accordance with all Denison University, North Coast Athletic Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations;
•Evaluate junior golfers for potential fit for programs
•Assist with the holistic development of golf student-athletes;
•Represent the program and the college to students, parents, alumni, and the general public;
•Assist in managing the daily operations and administration facets of the golf programs – including but not limited to – office administration and organization, equipment and apparel management, hosting of home tournaments, social media, and marketing of both programs for recruiting purposes
•Actively participate in department-wide fundraising initiatives;
•Assist in all duties as assigned by the Head Coach or the Director of Athletics
•Assist with all team camps and clinics
•Monitor academic progress of student athletes
•Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics
This is a live-on staff position that requires regular shifts on the Student Development professional staff on call rotation (around the clock for a designated period). This scheduled rotation is shared by other College personnel and is required during residency on campus in sport season and out of sport season. This position will live in a single occupancy unit in a shared university house.
Assist in documenting and enforcing university policy, managing crisis situations, take direction from Dean of Students and other university personnel; provide on call response as appropriate and report maintenance and safety concerns. May assist in facilitating educational meetings with students; may assist in mediation meetings; refer students to appropriate College personnel and resources for needed assistance. Serve as a role model and resource for students who live in our campus residence halls.
Perform administrative, and/or other duties for the department as assigned. Attend training sessions and other meetings as scheduled.
Demonstrated knowledge of the sport of golf and its playing rules; ability to foster a team environment; knowledge of travel, lodging, planning, and scheduling; a commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy of athletics, sufficient knowledge of NCAA and NCAC rules and regulations, and a demonstrated ability to successfully recruit, retain, and mentor student-athletes; the ability, and desire, to work successfully within a team-oriented athletic department; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to travel extensively throughout the year.
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling up to 25 pounds. Standing and or walking for more than four hours per day.
Good problem solving, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Must have a current, valid driver’s license and must be insurable under Denison’s liability insurance policy.
Previous coaching experience.
Demonstrate an understanding of and/or experience in a residential, liberal arts college environment.
Demonstrable experience working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Must be able to perform basic golf drills and demonstrate proper form/technique.
