Good and bad examples of a college golf resume

A few weeks ago, we wrote on the Basics of the College Golf Resume. I wanted to show examples of both good and bad college golf resumes to send college coaches. This first example is a resume format/template that you would want to replicate. A few keys to a good resume include paying attention to detail, making it easily readable, and keeping the length to around a page. Including a picture of yourself or a link to your personal website or swing video is a nice addition that a coach will appreciate.

Transitioning from High School to Collegiate Club Golf

This past weekend marked the 2018 Spring Nationals for the NCCGA (National Collegiate Club Golf Association). 348 of the best collegiate club golfers from across the country competed at Norwood Hills CC and Bogey Hills CC in St. Louis, MO. Norwood Hills has previously hosted the PGA Championship, US Senior Amateur, and this year’s Women’s Mid-Amateur.

Palmetto High School Golf Championship Recap

A victory by 14 shots is how the weekend ended in beautiful Myrtle Beach, as Boiling Springs High School (S.C) took home the trophy at the Palmetto High School Golf Championship. The Bulldogs fired an impressive 570 (+2), led by standout golfer Trent Phillips. Phillips, a UGA signee, put up a tournament record 63 on Friday followed by another quality round of 71 on Saturday.

The Palmetto High School Golf Championship, hosted annually in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, brings in some of the best high school golfers and teams from around the country. Notable alumni of the event include Harris English and 2006 champion Rickie Fowler.

Why caddying is a great job for high school…

As a 15-year-old high school student, there aren’t many options for jobs. The local grocery store won’t hire me until I turn 16 and they pay most of my friend’s minimum wage. Even though I am on the high school golf team, and take lessons from the PGA Professional there, he said he cannot hire me until I turn 18, because the local laws prohibit it. Mowing lawns for the neighbors isn’t any fun and most neighbors ask me to extra tasks without paying me more. If you are a high school student looking for a great job that pays well, does not require 40 hours a week, and provides life lessons, caddying might be the best job for a high school student.

Top 5 Girls High School Golf Teams – 2016…

Starting in 2016, The National High School Golf Association started ranking the top girls high school golf teams in the United States. All of these rankings are based solely on the state high school golf tournaments from the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 seasons. All state tournament scores were calculated and ranked using the USGA Handicap formula to ensure a stable benchmark for the difficult of golf course host sites. Calculation = ((Gross player score by day – rating) * 113/slope )). So who are the top 5 girls high school golf teams for the 2016-2017 season?

Massachusetts offers free handicaps for high school golfers

Since we are a Massachusetts based organization, it is awesome to see news that your local state golf association is leading the way to help grow the game. Having a handicap at a young age is important for the development of junior golfers and think the Massachusetts Golf Association’s recent partnership with the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) is a natural fit. We hope other state golf associations and high school athletic associations see the value in this alignment and will follow suit.
